We sometimes get asked why we decided to name our website “Be The Boss”. The answer is fairly simple. While there are many great reasons to pursue franchise ownership, there is one thing common among all franchisees, regardless of their respective businesses and industries: they all wanted to be their own boss. It’s something that’s within all of us to a certain degree. We all want to be our own boss on some level.

Some entrepreneurs are able to purchase several franchises and own them all, thus making a pretty penny. For others, it can be more difficult, at least at first. There are a lot of life obligations that we all must balance and this can get in the way of franchise ownership. One big factor is time. Do you have enough time to run a franchise? Can you run a franchise part time?

Part time franchise

We’ve established that wanting to be one’s own boss is a big driver for people to purchase a franchise. There are many advantages to owning your own business but one of the biggest ones is that it allows you a great deal of flexibility. You don’t necessarily have to come in and punch the clock for a set time every day like most employees do. But not all franchises are the same. The amount of flexibility you have as a franchise owner depends on several factors, including the type of business you run.

Having said all that, you should know that there are a number of part-time franchise opportunities available out there. You still have to commit yourself (and your capital) to owning and running this franchise, but you don’t have to commit all of your time. Part time franchising permits the franchisee to grow the business at their own speed. Part time franchise owners can spend more time on their business as familial and other life obligations allow.

Examples of part time franchises

What kind of franchises can one run part time? Not all franchises can be run on a part time basis, so you will have to choose wisely. Some industries and sectors don’t really lend themselves to the part time franchise model. There are also some franchisors who are not comfortable with allowing their franchisees to operate on a part time basis. But these by no means account for all the franchises out there as there are many that you can run on a part time basis. Some examples of popular types of part time franchises include cleaning franchises, painting franchises, financial services franchises, travel services franchises, and more!

Part time franchise considerations

There are several reasons why somebody might want to consider part time franchises. As mentioned above, many people own several franchises and they can’t run them all at once, though they do often hire full-time managers for their franchises. Others might have a loved one with an illness or condition who needs their attention, or perhaps another work commitment somewhere (though in this case you must be sure to be free of any conflicts of interest). Many other part time franchisees are seniors who wish to be semi-retired. Whatever your reason for wanting to run a franchise part time, you have options.
