American Robotics Academy

Founded in 2001, the Houston-based American Robotics Academy (ARA) aims to excite, inspire and motivate children about the world of robotics technology. The program offers interactive after-school classes and summer camps for kids in grades K-8. Classes teach “how things work” through hands-on activities using simple, motorized machines (all made from LEGOs!) that demonstrate mechanical movements and other effects.

In an age where science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) are critical fields of work, the American Robotics Academy offers children an introduction to mechanical engineering and design concepts that are easy to understand and learn through play.

Held in a friendly, sports-like atmosphere, students work in small, age-appropriate teams and learn a variety of ways to learn how to design, build and test remote and computer-controlled miniature robots.

With energetic instructors providing tools and guidance along the way, students are introduced to the wildly popular LEGO® Technic pieces and parts such as axles, gears, beams, wheels and motors. In addition, kids learn how to work with LEGO® Power Function. As a team, they decide and build the best design of their robot for the competition to be held at the end of each class session.
