The City of Whittier, California, is home to the newest ZIPS Dry Cleaners franchise business location. Known for its one-price, same-day service model, ZIP has been aggressively expanding, and this newest store is the second of 110 slated for Southern California. The first store in the region opened earlier in the year in Costa Mesa.
According to Shawn Bishop, a managing partner of ZDry, LLC, which owns the development rights in the area, the franchisee group was attracted to the ZIP franchise opportunity because its business model is revolutionary in the dry cleaning industry and in demand by the dry cleaning customer of today because of the flat-rate pricing and same-day service.
At a ZIPS location, customers have any single clothing item dry cleaned for just $2.29. It does not matter of the item is a pair of pants, a coat or a necktie; the price stays the same and is almost half the average cost in the industry. Since the cleaning is done on site, it allows for same-say service. In addition, ZIPS has a closed-cleaning system, which cuts down on waste. They reuse hangers and use biodegradable plastic bags.
Aaron Goldberg, the dry cleaning brand's Vice President of Development, said the company is excited to team up with an experienced partner like ZDry to bring the brand into Southern California. He also attributed the company's rapid growth to the success other investors have had with the franchise opportunity.
Established in 1996 and franchising since 2006, ZIPS Dry Cleaners is actively seeking franchisees across the country. This brand currently has over 50 stores across seven states, with another 250 stores in development. Preferred applicants will have a net worth of $1,500,000 or more, with a minimum of $400,000 liquid. The initial investment ranges from $$769,050 to $1,017,500, which includes a $50,000 franchise fee.
