How to Make Money with Coffee

“I have measured out my life with coffee spoons”, lamented the titular character of T.S. Elliot’s poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. Elliot couldn’t have known how prophetic he was being when he wrote that line. How often do you hear the phrase, “For the price of a cup of coffee, you could . . .” improve a child’s life in the developing world, help support a public radio or television station, or get three extra gigabytes of data on your mobile plan? We measure the cost of certain things in coffee. Why? Because we nearly all drink coffee and many of us drink it every day. And our appetites for this warm, rich beverage made from boiled beans is only growing. At this point, anybody with a business-oriented mind should be looking for an opportunity.

The Coffee Business

We should all get about eight hours of sleep every night. But . . . we don’t. And we probably won’t be changing that any time soon. And that’s why we have coffee. That’s why we need coffee. How many people do you know who are just useless before their first cup of coffee in the morning? Maybe you yourself are one of those people. Coffee keeps us going and keeps us alert, aware, and, above all, awake. But even for those who do get enough sleep, it’s still nice to have coffee; it just tastes good. And it smells great.

Furthermore, coffee has managed to fill so many different niches by being incredibly versatile. There are the standard black or one-sugar-one-cream coffee drinkers who get a cup or two on their morning commute. There are social media influencers who take selfies with their grande mochachinos and pumpkin spiced lattes. There are the coffee connoisseurs who drink only organic fair-trade coffee harvested from certain regions of Colombia, Guatemala, or Indonesia. There are the hardcore iced coffee drinkers who get their daily fix even in February. Whoever you are, there’s a type of coffee for you.

Coffee Business Franchises

There are very few products in this world that have as many consumers as coffee has. And clearly, there are a lot of businesses that have capitalized on our collective love of coffee. It’s not like you would be getting in on the ground floor by buying a coffee business franchise. But you can still make a lot of money with a coffee business franchise. How? Because our love of coffee (and collective addiction to caffeine) shows no signs of abating. We just want more and more coffee so we need more and more coffee business franchises to fulfill that need.

Coffee business franchises work great for the same reason that restaurant franchises work well: a lot of people want a familiar environment in which to get their coffee. They’re comfortable there, so if you buy a franchise from a successful coffee business, you’ll get a lot of customers merely by dint of operating under that brand. And you can specialize in something, whether that’s making intricate latte art, serving sweet coffee confabulations like mochaccinos, or a no nonsense get in, get your coffee, and get out business, there are plenty of customers out there for you.
